Working for anyone else beside yourself comes with many pros and cons. Yes, a big pro is receiving a big chunky paycheck every few weeks. However, it also comes with the biggest con of all: the possibility of getting laid off. Let’s face it, everyone gets laid off at least once in their lifetime. Unfortunately, we have no control over it and it can happen when you least expect it.
Yes, it’s true it can happen at any time but does this mean you should hide under the blankets and feel sorry for your self? NO! NOT AT ALL!
It can be easy to fall into a depressing stage of your life during this time. Trust me, I’ve been there! Today I want to share with you 5 easy ways to stay motivated after getting laid off!
So let’s just get into it!
1. Don’t Take It Personal
We tend to take a lot of things personal and I get it sometimes we have to. However, getting laid off isn’t something we should take personal. Businesses have their ups and downs and unfortunately we can’t control what happens behind the closed doors. Sometimes it might seem like everything is peachy and then the next day BOOM you get hit with the big news. There are endless reasons for a lay off to happen but the point is, it is not YOUR FAULT! I think this is a very important thing to remember! Their will always be bigger and better opportunities in the future.
2. Take This Time to Reflect
I am a firm believer of the saying: everything happens for a reason. Take this time to reflect what your next move will be. Will you pursue your passion? Will you look for another job in the same career path? Or will you choose a completely different career path? The possibilities are ENDLESS! Take time to reflect and choose something that will make you happy and benefit you in the long run.
3. Start/Get Back into a Hobby
Hobbies are a great way to relieve all the negative thoughts and stress. Take up a new hobby during your time off. If you already have a hobby you haven’t taken the time to do then get back into it! Hobbies are a great way to fuel your confidence. They are a small reminder that you are capable of learning new things and of-course rockin’ at those new things.
4. DON’T be a Lazy Slug
Please DO NOT sit at home all day watching TV and letting the time pass by! This is the worst thing you can do for yourself during your time off! Instead, get up early in the morning just like you would if you were still working. Get ready as usual and start off your day. Try to stay as productive as you can. Apply for new jobs or fulfill your creativity with a new hobby. Whatever you choose to do make sure it is PRODUCTIVE!
5. Stay Positive
The best thing that you can do for yourself is to stay positive. Like I mentioned before, there isn’t much you can do to avoid being laid off. However, you CAN do many things to stay sane during this time. Being laid off is usually perceived as a negative thing. However, it can actually be such a positive time in your life. It can open new and better opportunities for you! Just hang in there and always remember to keep a positive mind!
Yes, being laid off is hard to accept. I get it. We all need to feel like we have financial stability. However, it is not the end of the world. You can definitely get through this!
P.S what are some things that helped you during a lay off?
