Let’s face it, Every New Year’s Eve we make a list of resolutions that we want to accomplish. Unfortunately, by the next month those resolutions are very much forgotten. Most of the time our resolutions we make are either unrealistic or seem too complicated to complete. Whatever the reason is, it is not IMPOSSIBLE! Here are a couple of easy ways to keep up with your goals this upcoming year.
1.Make REALISTIC Goals.
Let’s start with the basics. Make goals that are realistic and that you know can be completed. Sometimes we get caught up in thinking that we can accomplish everything we want in a certain amount of time. We start to make unrealistic goals for ourselves that we know cannot be completed in a year or sometimes completing them are way out of our reach. However, we have to realize that accomplishing goals take time and dedication. After all, It’s a step by step process. Creating goals that are realistic will help you eliminate the goals that are impossible to accomplish.
2. Make Goals With Intention.
Don’t just make a goal that you have NO intention completing. We all have that one goal that we add to our resolution list every year but never seem to complete it. For example, every year I tell myself I’m going to work out every day. Of course, this is already an unrealistic goal because working a 9 to 5 gives you limited free time. Also, I HATE working out! I’m more of a “let’s go on a run or walk” kind of gal. I can probably manage keeping up with working out for a couple of weeks. However, I know I TRULY have no intention to complete this goal for the whole year. On the other hand, one goal that I know I CAN complete is going on a walk or run once a week. This goal is more realistic and I know I actually intend on completing it for the entire year.
3. List Your Goals with a Purpose.
Always have a WHY. Why do you want to accomplish this resolution? Why is it so important to you? I usually like to add a “SO I CAN” to my goals. For example, one of my goals this year is to work from home. The way that I wrote this goal down is: ” I want to work from home SO I CAN spend time with my newborn baby.” It is always important to remember and KNOW WHY you want to accomplish your goals. Sometimes we make goals that aren’t really what we want. We make them because we see them on somebody else’s goal list or because it sounds easy enough to complete. However, knowing your WHY will help you eliminate the goals that don’t really matter to you.
4. Set Phone Reminders For the Future You.
This one is quite simple but yet super helpful. Set a daily, weekly or monthly reminder about the goal you want to complete. I’ve always found that having a phone reminder is the best way to stay productive and complete daily, weekly goals. Setting a reminder on your phone will definitely help you stay motivated and keep you right on track to completing your goals!
5. Don’t Give up So Easily.
Let’s be real, if we can’t accomplish the goals that we want, there is no one to blame but ourselves. WE are in charge of our own decisions and we have to WANT to accomplish our goals. The biggest challenge is starting on your goal. Once you have started it’ll get easier and easier. I promise.
At the end of the day it is our own will that matters. It is definitely true what they say: “Where there’s a will there’s a way.”
So don’t give up too easily, if something isn’t working out then try a different solution. The key is to stay dedicated and keep your eyes on your goals. You can do it!
Let’s start the new year on a positive note! What are some of your new year goals? I would love to know!
