Self-Doubt. We all have it. Sometimes we let it get to us more than we intend it to.
Truth is, we all want to be successful and follow our passions. Unfortunately, We also all have a little voice in the back our minds that make us doubt our potential. We start thinking negatively about the things that inspire us the most. “What will people think of me?” “How will I ever make this into a career?” and the infamous thought “What if I fail?” We endlessly hold ourselves back from following the things we truly want the most. Somehow we always have that thought of self doubt in the back of our minds.
As someone who has constantly struggled with self-doubt I wanted to share some ways that I’ve dealt with it in the past.
WHY AND WHEN DOES SELF DOUBT OCCUR
Self-doubt seems to show up when we decide to make changes in our lives. It can be the moment you decide to get a new career, or pursue a new passion. maybe it’s starting a new relationship or even trying a healthier lifestyle. Whatever it is, we decide we WANT THAT THING but for some reason our self-doubt starts to take over. We start thinking about all the things that can go wrong instead of thinking of all the things that can go right.
HOW CAN WE DEAL WITH SELF-DOUBT
The thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that self-doubt is just a battle we have with ourselves. However, we need to overcome that battle. Nothing or no one else will help us with that battle. We have the power to change our mindfulness about our own self-doubt.
1. Give yourself Trust
Trust in yourself. It is the best thing you can do during a moment of self-doubt. Trusting yourself is the first step into moving past your self-doubt. Put trust in your potential, your goals, your journey and the whole process of your own personal growth. When you start trusting yourself it’ll get easier to over pass the little voices in your head that keeps telling you that you are not enough.
2. Positive Affirmations
Fill your mind with positive affirmations. Remind yourself why you want the thing that you want. Make it clear to YOURSELF that it is possible to accomplish what you want. Remind yourself that you are good enough.
I am good enough.
I can and I will. End of story.
I will NOT compare myself with others
I refuse to give up.
3. Detox Your Mind
It is so easy to start comparing yourself to others during a moment of self-doubt. Trust me, I’ve been there and I’ve done that plenty of times in the past. Don’t let others success be your downfall. Detox your mind and try to remember that you are on your own path. Whenever, I start comparing myself to others I give myself time to go on a social media detox. I stay away from social media for a couple of days and work on my own self-development. Another thing that has worked for me is using that jealousy towards your advantage. Let that girl who has a rockin blog or a killer instagram inspire you to do better.
4. Take Baby Steps
Take action and start on the thing you’ve been wanting to pursue. I’m not saying go quit your job and start pursuing your passion. NO, please don’t do that. Instead, start small. Take small steps towards the things you want. Start that blog you’ve been wanting to create or start that creative project that has been written in your planner for months. Whatever it is, start on it now. The hardest part of pursuing anything you want it starting on it. Once you’ve started you’re half way there. always remember that overnight success is impossible. Personal growth is such a wonderful journey filled with self discovery.
It might sound a little cheesy but you are capable of accomplishing great things. It is all about letting go of the negative thoughts and giving your mind a chance to be filled with positivity. Change is scary and self-doubt is even scarier but don’t let any of that get you stuck. I don’t want you to sit around and feel sorry for yourself. Start your journey to overcome self and start pursuing what you want. Like I said before, all you need to do is START!
P.S What are some things that scare you? Have you ever dealt with self-doubt?
