Lets be honest, having a side hustle and a day job can get a little hectic at times. Time management while working a nine to five can be very difficult and stressful. By the time you know it it’s already time for bed and nothing on your side hustle To-D0 list has gotten done. Getting into the habit of having a morning routine BEFORE your nine to five is the best thing you can do for yourself and your side business. Luckily, I have come up with a very productive morning routine that has me feeling more like a lady boss. I want to share with you five tips that have helped me establish a productive morning routine before heading out to my day job.
1.Get the Right Amount of Sleep
A good night’s rest is the best thing you can do to achieve a better morning routine. It might seem like an obvious thing to do but a lot of people seem to miss this little step. Set yourself a routine of sleeping at a certain time every night. I know it’s super easy to stay up late to get extra stuff done but you’re not doing yourself a favor. What’s the point of staying up late if it’s going to cause you to sleep in?
Bonus tip: Set an alarm on your phone that reminds you when it’s almost time for bed time.
2. Wake Up Early
If you follow tip #1 then you will have no problem waking up early. Think of an appropriate amount of time that allows you to get stuff done. For example, I usually start my day job at 9:00 am. I wake up every morning at 5:30 am to get stuff done for my side hustle. I know I know 5:30 sounds very early compared to the time I start. However, I go to bed at 9:00pm every night to be able to wake up so early. I also love giving myself a four hour time range to enjoy my morning routine. Waking up early has really made a difference in my productivity.
3. Plan your Morning the Night Before
It is always a great idea to plan ahead. Planning your morning the night before can save you a lot time. The less time you spend making decisions in the morning the better. I usually make a morning To-Do list before my bedtime. I place my To-Do list on my office desk so I won’t forget about it in the morning.
4. Eat a Good Breakfast
Before anything else make sure to eat a healthy nutritional breakfast. It’s true when they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a nutritional breakfast is considered important because it sets the tone of the day and provides essential nutrients to keep you energized throughout the day. It also makes it easier to focus while tackling your T0-Do List. I don’t know about you guys but I can’t work on an empty stomach.
5. Get Ready Before Hitting the To-Do List
I’ve noticed that getting ready in the morning can be very time consuming and unproductive. Before bedtime I make sure I know exactly what I’m going to wear the next day. This saves me time and effort in the morning. I also make sure that before tackling my To-Do List I get myself ready for the work day. I basically make sure I do my make-up and get dressed BEFORE tackling my TO-Do list. I’ve noticed that this has helped me get a lot done because once everything else is out of the way I am able to fully focus on my tasks.
Bonus tip: Get pumped up before your To-Do list by listening to some podcasts while getting ready. Here is a list of my all time favorite podcasts.
After all, working a nine to five can be a struggle when you’re trying to grow a side business. Utilizing your mornings can really help you get into the habit of being more productive. I hope that these five tips help you create your own morning routine.
